Ian Rickuss MP, Member for Lockyer met yesterday with the Main Roads Minister, the Honourable Craig Wallace MP, David Stewart, Director General Department of Transport and Eddie Peters, Department of Transport and Main Roads and other officers to discuss safety concerns on the Warrego Highway. Mr Rickuss said Minister Wallace advised that the safety audit on the Warrego Highway was nearing completion. The Minister did acknowledge that this has to have the co-operation of the Federal, State and Local Governments to continue to improve the safety of the Warrego Highway. “It appears that some action will finally be forthcoming on improving safety on the Warrego Highway within the next twelve months, with more than $30million being committed to upgrades along the highway from Hatton Vale right through to Withcott”. Mr Rickuss said safety concerns from Hatton Vale, through Glenore Grove, Crowley Vale, Helidon and the pedestrian crossing at Withcott were to be included in the safety improvements. “I was very pleased that the Minister and his senior bureaucrats listened to some of the issues that I have been raising now for a number of years and are moving to assist with improvements on the Warrego Highway”, Mr Rickuss said. “The Federal Government does seem to be dragging the chain with supplying enough funds for improvements that are required for this major thoroughfare of heavy vehicles that service southern States”. Mr Rickuss said I have continually contacted Federal representatives so that this highway can be improved to a much better standard. 20 May 2010
