Savage increases in heavy vehicle registration costs imposed by Bligh and Labor will end up costing Queensland consumers, Mr Rickuss said today. Ian Rickuss, Member for Lockyer said transport companies would have no option but to pass on the increased costs which would ultimately hit all Queenslanders in their hip pockets. “Registration rises as high as 36.5 per cent for B-triples and 25 per cent for B-doubles will add tens of thousands of dollars to transport companies’ running costs,” he said. “Local transport companies such as Nolans, Freshwayz, Lindsay Brothers and numerous other smaller operators will have to pay thousands of dollars in increased registration fees”. “Ordinary Queenslanders already smarting from increased fuel, registration, licence and utility costs will now be hit with a double-whammy when the price of all freight moved by road will also increase”. Mr Rickuss said the increases were just another example of Bligh and Labor’s mismanagement of the Queensland economy. Labor is now scrambling for funds to prop up this broke Labor Government, and unfortunately every Queensland working family will be paying for it. “The Bligh Labor fuel tax imposed straight after the election has already added significantly to the cost of moving freight by road in Queensland”, Mr Rickuss said. “Vehicle registrations are the most expensive in the country, the cost of licences is going through the roof, all of which are placing a significant strain on family budgets”. Mr Rickuss said the Queensland economy is starting to suffer under the spiralling taxes of Anna Bligh and her Labor government. This government should look at cutting their excesses and saving the Queensland taxpayer from further increases.” 28 May 2010
